JERRY MATECUN, MBA, CBA
I founded CVA to help clients understand how to plan, build, and protect your wealth. My financial expertise spans over 20 years of investment advisory, research, and portfolio management, mergers and acquisitions, and and business valuation consulting. I’ve advised public and private company executives, business owners, individuals, and non-profit institutions on issues ranging from succession planning, business valuation, retirement and income planning, asset concentration risk, and how to increase portfolio efficiency to serve their particular objectives.
Prior to founding Compound Value Advisers, I served as Senior Adviser and Research Director at Integrated Wealth Counsel responsible for managing $250 million in client assets. As co-founder and partner at Kalydus Asset Advisors I led the research team in all phases of investment research, security analysis, and risk management including development of the firm’s valuation and analytical models used to appraise public and privately held firms. Before Kaldus, I was a research analyst with Banc of America Securities largest Private Client team, which managed over $1 billion in client assets.
My finance career began at Hankin & Co., where I led a team of 4 analysts in its startup Merger & Acquisition unit. We executed client strategic and corporate development initiatives. I performed dozens of business valuations, due diligence, and sourced deals across multiple industries. Our team generated over $100 million in transaction value in our first year of operations. I worked directly with owners and executives in helping them understand how different variables and assumptions impact enterprise value.
I completed my MBA in Finance from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA, and my BA in International Studies from Aquinas College (Magna Cum Laude) in Grand Rapids, MI. Professional licenses and certifications include: Series 65, Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) accredited by the Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA/NACVA), Standard & Poor’s Fixed Income certifications in Corporate Credit and Sovereign Risk Analysis, and Oxford University’s Private Equity program. Professional associations include: Tustin Chamber of Commerce, the Long Beach Estate Planning Council, and the Exit Planning Institute. I am bilingual and have studied and taught in Spain and Peru. Global travel is a passion I pursue, having travelled extensively throughout 27 countries in the last ten years.
I have more than 10 years in Client Services in the financial service industry. I performed a variety of duties as a Senior Sales Assistant at Montgomery Securities in the International Institutional Equity Sales group. At JP Morgan, I also was a Sales Assistant in its Institutional Equity Sales unit. My duties there included project management and client services. I am responsible for gathering data, performing operational duties, and servicing clients through diligent and detailed follow-up.
Away from the office, I enjoy watching my kids play baseball, basketball, and the guitar! I am also a huge Angels fan. My family and I volunteer heavily at HearAid Foundation, a foundation to help those that cannot afford hearing devices.
